NAPRA Consultation on Compounding Competencies – Feedback Requested
The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) has released a consultation on key components needed to support the implementation of Canada’s updated approach to sterile and hazardous compounding competence.
While the 2024 Entry-to-Practice (ETP) competencies were updated, the previous 2014 competency related to sterile and non-sterile compounding remains in effect until a national framework for training and assessment is finalized. PTSBC position paper is found here. In December 2025, NAPRA shared the agreed-upon national approach with stakeholders, and is now seeking feedback on several supporting components, including:
Feedback received will help pharmacy regulatory authorities finalize expectations and establish clear timelines for transitioning to the new compounding competency framework. Each provincial/territorial regulator will then communicate local requirements and implementation processes.
Pharmacy professionals are encouraged to review the consultation document and share their perspectives.
Submit your feedback via the survey by 11:59 p.m. ET on March 15, 2026.
The first CONSULTATION: Components for PRA Approach to Compounding Competence – NAPRA provides direction for how provincial regulatory authorities (PRA), like the CPBC, can implement the updated entry-to-practice (ETP) competencies document published last year.
The second CONSULTATION: Model Documents for PRA Use – Non-sterile and Sterile Compounding Standards – NAPRA updates current versions of standards that guide pharmacy compounding in Canada.
Submit your Survey Feedback HERE and HERE (see page 3 for the individual links to the series of surveys on the Model Documents).
