The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in providing day to day pharmacy operations support to nurses for: practice standards and best practices for formularies, prescription drug records, monitors distribution, utilization, inventory management, recalls, shortages and audit of drugs and controlled substances.

Term position until March 31, 2020

Location: Vancouver BC

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the Regional Controlled Substance Office (“RCSO”) work plan to meet requirements of the section 56 exemption to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) by monitoring distribution and utilization of controlled substances, completing on-site audits at each Nursing Station every six months, and following up on policy and procedure compliance issues.
  2. Provides support to the collaboration of Pharmacist and FNIHB committees (i.e. FNIHB Join Practice Advisory Committee and FNIHB Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee), including updating related documentation and creating presentations and communication materials on decisions and changes.
  3. Supports formulary management of the BC Nursing Station and Health Centre formularies and coordinates inter-professional processes for resolving formulary related issues.
  4. Supports Nursing Professional Practice team on issues related to pharmacy practice standards, processes, and regulations by managing pharmacy-related documents, inventory management, managing notifications of recalls and drug shortages.
  5. Supports medication management; including providing reporting on drug inventories, costs and trends, improving drug utilizations reporting, and ensuring inventories aligned with community programs and the Health Benefits program.
  6. Supports accreditation requirements, where inter-professional collaboration is required.
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned.


• Certificate or diploma from a post-secondary institute related to healthcare, pharmacy or nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


• Recent and relevant experience in the health services field, ideally having experience in pharmacy or nursing (usually acquired over a period of at least 2 years)

• Experience as a registered pharmacy technician

• Experience in working with First Nations would be an asset

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Registered Pharmacy Technician for our dynamic specialized pharmacy in Richmond, BC. The scope of this role includes checking, filling, and billing prescriptions, serving as a liaison with patients, doctors, programs, program coordinators, and drug plan representatives, and inventory management. This is a permanent, full time position which requires a working schedule of 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday.

We are offering a $1,500 signing bonus to provide unmatched patient care.


  • Assist with dispensing activities, such as technician driven prescription checks, filling, and billing prescriptions;
  • Assist with inventory activities, such as receiving orders and counting inventory weekly;
  • Contacting doctors and programs for prescriptions;
  • Communicating with program coordinators and insurers to secure coverage and solve coverage issues;
  • Responding to communication from various stakeholders in a timely manner, including monitoring email accounts and answering phones;
  • Other related tasks as required.


  • Accreditation as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in good standing an in adherence to the Standards of Practice with BC Pharmacy Board;
  • 1+ years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Experience using Kroll in a pharmacy setting;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • General computer proficiency and competence with Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Proficiency with numbers and calculations;
  • Proven customer service skills;
  • Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills;
  • High attention to detail within a fast paced environment;
  • Ability to problem solve, think critically, and make decisions;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Capable of lifting and organizing boxes and inventory (5-10 lbs, repetitive movements);
  • Driven by continuous learning;
  • Able to work well within a team environment.
